I had a short notice charter yesterday, the Morrisey brothers from the Boston area. They came referred to me from another Captain that wasn't able to take them. Having just come back from vacation, and the boat just gone back in the water after a bearing warranty repair, I didn't have much of an idea where to take the boys for a decent days fishing. We ended up with a great day of fishing even though there was some chop left over from the day before which did lay down nicely towards the end of the trip. We found birds working 3 miles east of the Chatham inlet. Gulls, gannets, etc were working over bait that registered in varying depths from 75 feet and up. There were some school tuna busting on the surface there as well but we did not hook up. We did catch two nice bass of 36 and 34 inches as well as a few big fat blues of 10-12 pounds, close to the bottom with the 5 3/4" Fin-S baits and a 1 oz jighead. After a hour and a half the bird activity slowed and we drifted along catching an occasional codfish, adding three or four to the fishbox along with the two stripers and the blue. When the catching slowed a bit more we picked up the gear and ran another 4 miles east to the Crab Ledge. We caught a nice bunch of cod there to fish out the trip, three of which were well over twenty pounds. It is a good thing when one can catch 20 pound cod 7 miles off the beach !! Call me for some good cod fishing !Bruce
