Today I picked up my second tote of mackeral to freeze up for hook baits for tuna fishing. The boats are doing well with the mackeral now, and the squid are showing real good as well. With all this large bait swimming around in the sound, I know there are BIG stripers right after them. I have heard of 20 to 30 pound bass being caught at South Sunken Meadow in Eastham. The fish are hitting a live herring with a dropping tide. You may have to move around a bit to find them. Pleasant Bay is also producing many schoolies, and some nicer fish on live herring. Fish around the mouths of the herring run in Ryders Cove or Little Pleasant Bay. The west side of Strong Island should start any time. A good schoolie sp[ot is between Paw Wah Rivewr and Hog Island on the eel grass flats when the tide is running. I would use a trout rod and a small curly tail grub on a small jighead. These fish will be small, but you may catch 50 or a 100 before your done. The south side beaches have fish (small size) on the less windy and sunnier days. There are also good steady catches being reported from the herring run on the canal up to the Mass Marritime Academy.
