I sent the last report on the Giant Tuna situation, but neglected to say what was up with the Bass fishing locally. There are still small pods of Stripers hugging the bottom just south (a mile or two) of the Chatham "C" bouy. If you can get through the hordes of Blues in the area, you will find a few fish there. I seem to get beat up by the "alligators" so bad with the 12 and 14 pound test there, that I opt to go to the rips of Bearse's Shoal to the east of Monomoy's tip. Once there, with the tide running, I drift a single sand eel through the tide rips on the bottom. On the last dozen or so trips there, we have pretty much caught at least one bass on every drift. Most times it has been triples and doubles. I have seen very little boat traffic there as well. Its all there for your enjoyment................
I have heard bonita have been chased and caught recently on the west side of Monomoy in the warmer waters of the sound and on the Rip at the Point at the start of the tide. I have not seen any of these speedsters myself yet this year though.
Go get em!
