It took a little longer than I expected but the fish have finally showed up in the cold water ! We have had some excellent fishing the last couple of days. The talk I heard on the radio today seemed to indicate that others were doing as well as we were in the different areas they fish.
We have been jigging the soft plastic baits that we usually use ( Sluggos and Fin - S baits) up and down in the deep water when we are marking the schools of stripers on the bottom. If the fish are scattered across the bottom, we have been getting them with drifting a fresh sand eel. I have been using the 10 pound test light spinning rods and occasionally going with the heavier 14 pound test stuff. These fish are in the 33 to 38 inch range with a few bluefish scattered in amonst the bass. If you are tired of fishing on the boats that use umbrella rigs or a wire and jig, come on out and see how much fun the light gear can be. We can catch the same fish without the heavy gear.
I am booking charters at a rate of a couple a night. If you would like to reserve a day of light tackle fun aboard the "Miss Jillian", call Captain Bruce at 508 255-0911 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up a trip.
I hope to see you.
