The fish are still biting in every spot we go to. This is the no-fail time of year, when I feel like a hero. Actually, there are so many bass in the Chatham area, that if you can't catch a limit, then you are doing something drastically wrong. It matters not where we fish, whether it be in the rips or outside in the open water, we can limit out in short order. The last couple of days have been really exceptional with limits in the first hour or so with nice healthy fat stripers of 33 to 40 inches. At Bearse's Shoals if the fogs lifts enough to let the sun shine through, you can see the schools of bass cruising across the bars in 6 to 12 feet of water as you drift through over their heads. That certainly adds to the excitement of fishing the rips ! We are catching these fish with bait and soft plastic baits, using either 10 pound or 14 pound test line on spinning rods and reels. I will not use the stainless wire and jig or umbrella rigs on my charters. If you have never tried the light gear before, I am quite sure I can convert you. Come on out on the Miss Jillian and see how much fun it can be !
Thanks, and Good Fishing,
