I knew that would get your attention !
Yes, it is true for the folks with the 7 hour charters. I have been able to put my customers on 33 to 40 inch bass on about 85% of the drifts we make in the areas we are now fishing. It is absolutely amazing to see these fat, chunky, deep bodied fish hitting the baits on every pass. Most trips we have released many fish in the 40 inch sizes.
Unfortunatley I cannot realistically travel to these areas on a 5 hour charter, due to the huge increases in fuel costs and the time it takes to get there and back. I am glad that this fuel cost increase has happened on Labor Day instead of Memorial Day. The price of gasoline the last few days at the Chatham Fish Pier has been steady at $4.25 per gallon ! The "Miss Jillian" will use 25 to 60 gallons on a trip, twice daily, depending upon where we go and for how long. It is quite possible you will hear the words "fuel surcharge" when you come onboard for your trip in the next couple of weeks. I wish this was not the case, but it is not my fault or yours that this nation would rather be totally dependant upon others for its fuel needs, and so we must split the costs equally. Most likely I will be adding $50 dollars to the cost of the trips until the price of gas goes back down to around $3.00, probably not until the end of this season. If you decide that its too much to pay I will refund your deposit or fish at the usual inshore and closer spots that may be less productive.
I realize that this is a break from the agreed upon price, but I will follow the lead of other transportation oriented businesses, and try to share the increased cost of the trips with customers. I hope you can understand. If there are any folks having deposits on trips that they would like to cancel, call me at home at 508 255-0911 and I will get you your deposit back.
