Hi Folks,Its now at the end of August and many emails are asking me if the bass are still around or not. The absolutely BEST fishing is ahead of us in the month of September! The vacationing families will soon be back at home to get the kids in school, leaving a much less crowded area to fish in. Water temperatures are high is some places, causing us to be more creative in finding the cooler waters where the big bass are, but the fishing is better. The days are not so oppressively hot, there is no fog and the fish are bigger. There are school and medium bluefin tuna around as well as bluefish, nice fluke and larger bass. Yesterday we caught our first bonito in the rips.
There is much buzz about bluefin tuna, which I have not been doing much fishing for lately. I have had 2 bass charters scheduled a day for most of the summer and it has been too hard to try to fit in the longer duration and further ofshore bluefin trips. I have now put the tuna gear on the boat and my girlfriend Kathy and I went out last Monday for the exploratory trip. We hardly had a chance to put the gear in the water as the small tuna ( 35 to 45 inch range) would hit the rigs as soon as we could get them out. We eventually caught and landed 16 of the fiesty speed demon fighters before 10 am ! I also hooked one fish I think to be in the next size class of about a hundred pounds, but I never saw him as I broke him off after a few minutes into the fight. I guess the new boat raises fish just fine ! It seems the best fishing is in the mornings, before the sun gets high and the light levels are still low in the water. Many folks are not happy about a 4-5 am departure I guess because I see many boats headed east at 6:30 and 7 ish in the morning. If you want to catch more fish, it is my opinion that you should get there before the "fleet" and the sun.
If you are interested in one of these trips I can suggest a date after you email me and I look to see what availability I have left. I would suggest an early morning trip for the best results. The rates for tuna fishing are $800 for 7 hours. Currently I have the following dates open for tuna trips:
September 4, 5, 6, 15, 18, 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.
The following dates are what is open for bass trips:
August 27, 28 - September 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30.
Thanks very much,
Captain Bruce & "Marilyn S"
