First let me apologize for that screw-up last week with the report mailing system. The administrators of the server did some tests because of a failure and the resulting multiple mailings of the report were bothersome to say the least. I'm sorry to say that a couple of you decided to drop from the mailing list. Only 2 isn't as bad as I would have expected, though.
There are some medium bluefin in the area and more than a few were caught east of Chatham in the BC area and a bit to the south and east of there. Most of these fish are 50 to 100 pounds. I know of other sightings (caught ?) out of Green Harbor, as well of added sporadic reports from the commercial guys here in Chatham. By the way, this year we are allowed 3 bluefin, per boat, per day. Two must be over 47 inches and you are allowed 1 fish under 47" but it must be over 27". Two 47 inch tuna will provide about 75-80 pounds of tuna meat for your cooler. Pan seared, with a shitake mushroom side dish and a nice wasabi sauce, YUM ! When you come with me you have better bring some boxes of 1 gallon zip lock bags and a big cooler for your steaks.
There are plenty of stripers around as well. I saw several fish taken at Minister's Point in Chatham's Pleasant Bay as well as several fish boiling around the boat when I took the Marilyn S to her Chatham mooring on Saturday. In Nantucket Sound water temperatures are rapidly warming, and the bluefish are moving in and biting. It seems the Bishops and Clerks situation is still producing but getting more and more crowded each weekend. Bigger boats are heading out to fish the backside of Nantucket and the lesser travelled spots that are close to the major marinas. I don't know whats going on in Cape Cod Bay this week, because I haven't heard anything other than the water temps were warming and there were bluefish. The Monomoy area has smaller fish on the west side of the island and at the rip at the southwest tip. The best tides at this time of year are when the flow is west to east there. There should be bigger fish there and at Bearse's rip in another week or so, weather permitting.
