Hi Folks,
Its been a busy month for Capeshores Charters, with 2 bookings daily for over a month with only a few days scattered through the month that were open. The striper fishing started off in early July with the Striped Bass chasing squid in the Rips at Monomoy and then the fish moved into the cooler water and a more abundant bait supply in the deeper waters just east of Chatham. Bluefin Tuna also started off well, with the Marilyn S landing a commercial sized bluefin on her first trip of the year ! “Friend” us on the new Capeshores Charters Facebook page to see many of the latest catches in both pictures and video. A new video page link is also up on the revamped website at www.sportfishingcapecod.com as well.
The bookings and the fishing continue to be happening at a blockbuster rate. The stripers are firmly entrenched on the bottom in small piles and don’t bite well at certain periods of the tide in the day, BUT then when the tide and timing is right these bass come up off the bottom and chase down our little diamond jigs with a vengeance ! During the times when they aren’t biting the vertical jigs, we have to go to the wire and bucktails. I know ! I’m supposed to be a light tackle guy, but when you see fish being caught in the next boat and all you gotta do is switch poles, you’ll do it too ! As for the bluefin tuna it has been an amazing year. We are catching the limits and releasing fish on most every trip. Today one boat and Captain reported an amazing 10 plus fish caught and released on one charter ! The fish are of mixed sizes, allowing the charter sector to catch their clients both of the slot sizes allowed by NMFS regulations.
If you want to get in on this amazing fishing action, send an email or call as much prior to your desired date as possible. Except for Thursday 8/2 @ 10:30 am, I currently do not have any openings until August 14, 15, 16 and 18. Then there are sporadic openings throughout the rest of the month. September is still relatively open and if you wish to go after a giant Bluefin, you will need to set up and reserve a date for the smaller tides in September and October.
I hope to hear from you. Good luck & Good Fishing,
Capt. Bruce & “Marilyn S”
