Hi Folks, Every year I offer my interpretations of how I expect the tide book data to affect the fishing in my area. I believe a good moving current to be beneficial to fishing for striped bass in the rips. I believe a smaller current and the timing of slack water to be the best time for fishing for bluefin tuna. I know that the timing of these tides to be critical and they vary widely depending upon where you are on the coast and the height (or size) of the tide. I will list only the largest and smallest tides. In short, fish eat every day. Just because I list extremes here that doesn’t mean the specie we seek wont bite on the average days.LARGEST TIDES: (better for stripers in the rips)
JUNE 12, 13 (full moon), 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 28, 29, 30
JULY 1, 11, 12 (full moon), 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 28, 29
AUGUST 8, 9, 10 (full moon), 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 26, 27, 28
SEPTEMBER 7, 8 (full moon), 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 25, 26
OCTOBER 6, 7, 8 (full moon), 9, 10, 11, 12, 23, 24
NOVEMBER 3, 4, 5, 6 (full), 7, 8, 9, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25
SMALLEST TIDES: (better for bluefin tune)
JUNE 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 24, 25, 26,
JULY 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26,
AUGUST 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 31
SEPTEMBER 1, 2, 3, 4, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 29, 30
OCTOBER 1, 2, 3, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 30
NOVEMBER 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19,
Now, even though one of these dates may be great for your planned fishing day, remember the timing of the slack is important, so we will need to email each other or talk on the phone before we reserve a day for a trip.
Thanks very much, Capt. Bruce & “Marilyn S”
