I know I am tired, but its a happy tired. I get to take you and your friends and families fishing during the summer. I put in many of a long day, this season, but by the end of October its all over and we start prepping for winter on the Cape. A few home repairs here and there, splitting a few logs for the wood stove, perhaps a week or so somewhere warm in February to break up the bleakness of the winter, and then its another year. This year was a busy one for me, bookings were up. The fishing for stripers was a "pick" at best, nothing like the days a few years ago when we would catch 25-30 fish on every 5 hour charter. Perhpas it cyclical, perhaps we are overfishing them, but regardless, the charter captains of Cape Cod will generally do their very best to make sure you folks that come with us each summer get our best efforts to put you on the fish.
As for the bluefin, they too were generally more elusive this year. Lately that has turned around, and I expect some very good days are ahead of us, as September is usually our best month. As with the striper fishing, I will do my absolute best to put your charter on the tuna fish on the day that you book. Somedays are better than others and usually in September the 10 hour tuna charter is more productive than the eight hour version. It does cost more, but it gets you to areas further away due to increased travel time and also allows you to fish through two slack water periods on some days.
There are very few open days left in my September schedule for bluefin. The following dates are what is open and unbooked. September 7,14, 21, and 23. October 1, 2. After that, we are headed to the offshore waters commercial fishing for Giant tuna only. We will target the larger giants until the weather and conditions move them out of our areas - generally mid November.
I do offer a very limited 2 or 3 day "bucket list" charter during October for Giant Bluefin Tuna, depending upon the angler experience. This would be your very best chance at landing one or more very big bluefin. I limit the charter to only one or two members of the charter. We will travel overnight to the grounds and fish for 2 days, travelling home at the end of the 2nd day, arriving at the dock on the morning of the third day. The rate is $3200 and if we stay an additional third day the rate increases to $4000. All of the fish will be sold as per NOAA/NMFS regulation specifies. Call my cell to discuss any interest in any of these type of trips.
Thanks very much,
