I have crocuses blooming in my lawn, but 2 nights ago they got another dusting of snow on them . Today i want to get to the sanding of my skiff and dinghy to get them painted and ready for the new fishing season, but its too damned cold to go lay under the boat and sand away ! Even though it seems cold out this morning i know that the days are now much longer and that additional sunlight is starting the plankton and diatom blooms in our estuarine waters necessary for our chains of marine life.
Last week there was an article with a video online (Facebook maybe?) about a car theft in Chatham, that got crashed in the river. The video of the wrecker pulling the vehicle out of the water clearly showed a live river herring (alewife) falling out of the wreckage and flopping back into the water ! Proof that our marine engines of life and baitfish are churning along and our stripers and bluefin tuna will be shortly behind. Soon the spring peepers will be peeping, the eels will come out of the mud, mackerel, menhaden and sea herring will arrive and we shall again be starting another fishing season.
This will be my 21st year of charter fishing out of the Chatham Fish Pier. I have been blessed with many, many wonderful customers and friends over these years. I thank you all so very much ! I feel lucky. We will start our bluefin tuna charters at the first of June and our striped bass fishing will start around mid June or Father’s Day. Those of you looking for something earlier than that I can recommend a good reputable boat in another area that has warmer waters and better early season fishing. I would rather you get good, honest information from me that catches fish rather than just take you out on a less than optimum day and not do well. Here is a link to my Tripadvisor reviews to see what folks have offered about me:
If you have fished with me before and were satisfied (or not) with my results for your charter, here is the link to post a review of my operation: ………..write a review….
The reservations are starting to come in quite regularly now, so if you are considering booking a trip, its a good time to send me an email describing what it is that you want to do and which weeks or month you wish to go, and i will then reply with a list of days that work best for the timing of departure, tides, and other factors to improve your chances. Once we nail down the date and time, you would then send me a deposit check to secure your reservation, along with your cell number in case I need to reach you on short notice, and then you will be in my book. I hope to hear from you.
Thanks very much,
