Hi Folks, When we are doing 2 charters per day, its tough to take a few moments to get up to date and write out a current fish report. Today, we have had trip cancellations due to the weather, so I can update the report, answer some emails, go to the post office and grocery store, pay some bills, and visit with Dad. Its simple stuff for many of you, but when you are booked solid, it can be hard to get to some of these things.
On stripers, there seems to be an unusual amount of small stripers in our area. The rips are loaded with them, unfortunately they are too small to keep. The ratio seems to be about 10 small ones to one keeper sized bass. Yesterday on the morning trip I did not catch one to keep, the afternoon trip, I tried a different area and managed to catch 5 nice sized stripers from 32" to 38". There is a ton af bait in the form of small sand eels and mackerel inner area as well, attracting the gamefishes. I expect that the weather we had today and the resulting water turnover will change things for the better.
On tuna, we caught a nice 89" bluefin on Friday and we were closer than 5 miles from the mouth of our harbor. A live mackerel and a circle hook did the trick for my customers that day. I will be headed out again for all day tuna charters on this coming Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday 8/2, so check in to see how we do. There are lots of fish around, as well as lots of anglers being successful. The result is the price is down drastically. By the Way, the prices you hear on the TV show Wicked Tuna is all baloney, the real fishermen are not paid anything like that per pound price as depicted on the show.
If you are considering a charter for one of these giant speedsters, send me an email or call me in the evening. I dont answer the phone while on the boat working for others, so leave a voicemail, text or email, and Ill get back to you as soon as I can. Current open days are as follows: August 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 for 1/2 day trips. August 19, & 22, for all day tuna. September 10, 11, 12, 13, 18, 23, 234, 25, 26 & 28, all good tuna days. October is open.
Thanks very much, Bruce & "Marilyn S"
