Hi Folks,I just yesterday pulled the last of my boats out of the water, and they now sit in the back yard waiting for sanding, painting and any other repairs that might be needed. Also removed from the waters, was about a dozen lobsters that I had in deep storage, to which I will try to share as best I can. The last of butter dripping off my chin !
A few customers are now calling and reserving dates for their 2021 summer and fall fishing trips. I do have the latest tide charts and can direct you to dates and departure times that will work for your group trips. Why not send me an email to: bruce@sportfishingcapecod.com to ask any questions about best tides, or open dates. Generally speaking, we are fishing for black sea bass in latter May and early June, then around Father’s Day the stripers move into the Monomoy Rips with enough of a presence to start regular charters for them. Depending upon the weather we have during the April and May months and how warm the water temperatures are, will have a bearing on when the bluefin show up. Many years we are catching them in early June, but in others, we don’t see them for another 2 weeks or so. The July through November months are when we see and catch them regularly. The most productive months are latter August, September and October.
I have always felt the size of the tide to be important when targeting bluefin. I also don’t fishing for them on the most crowded days of the week, (Sunday ?) as the increased effort tends to subdue the “bite”. So keep this in mind when you call to reserve a date and time. Many folks will only be able to fish on a weekend, due to work constraints. If that is the case, try to make sure you get an early start as many of the recreational fishers, need to stop for coffee and donuts etc., first and don’t really get out to the tuna grounds until 7-7;30 am. If you are on the grounds at 4:30 am waiting for sunrise, you might be one of those “lucky” boats with a nice fat bluefin on the deck before the other nimrods get out there !
