When I called Scott last night to find out if they were interested in a tuna trip instead of the bass trip they had scheduled, he was a little hesitant to go with the gamble on the tuna trip. He had a new member of his group with him and was wanting to put the guy on some fish. He and his group of guys usually go with the 7 hour light tackle bass charters, and they do pretty well. Anyway, they decided to go for the 8 hour tuna trip with the added cost and we left at 4:30 this morning, an hour earlier than originally scheduled.
We dropped the lines about an hour and 10 minutes out of the harbor and within 10 minutes had our first bluefin on. It turned out to be a decent sized, but average fish of 49 inches and about 50 pounds. After getting the lines back out we took care of the fish and had him on ice as soon as we could. To make a long story short, we ended up with ten 50-100 pound bluefin for the morning's trip, releasing all of the larger ones and taking a couple 47-49 inch fish for the customers. Our largst fish was a decent 56-58 inch fish (est) which was released next to the boat.
If you are looking to do something different than the usual bass trips, there is some really great fishing action just about one hour east of my harbor. Even if the fishing is a little slow and we only get a fish or two, there is still a great whale show to be had along with the tuna ! There are not many days left open for a tuna charters this month ( only one) But I do have lots of good tuna tides open for September and you can always upgrade a morning bass trip to a tuna trip. It will cost you more and we may have to leave a little earlier, but you wont be dissapointed. Call me at 508 255-0911 to set aside something.
