Hi Folks,Indian Summer !!!! The beaches are empty (except for the seals) and the fishing waters are not crowded at all. The water temperatures are cooling, but the bluefish still predominate in the east of Chatham waters. Where we can find the 63 degree and cooler water temperatures are where we are finding the stripers.
Last week on one day I had a 50 striper day with several fish over 43 inches. Just Monday, I stopped at one of my rips on the way in from tuna fishing and in one hour of fishing caught 2 bass over 43 inches and at least a dozen others ranging from 34 to 40 inches. Bluefin tuna of both small and medium sizes are being seen within a couple miles of shore off of Chatham's beaches. False albacore and bonito as well are being chased and sometimes caught around the tip of Monomoy and the Sound. Several large "giant" tuna over 400 pounds were caught last week to the east of Chatham as well on live bluefish.
The full moon (today) has again had an effect on the offshore school and medium tuna bite as it did last month, but as of yesterday, that seemed to be much better. We caught our limit of tuna and released several more, broke one off and had threee or four "crashes" where the fish missed the hook. Prior to that, the fishing had been very spotty, with double digit catches of 50 inch fish on one day and total skunk outs on the next. As the moon wanes and the tides again start to get smaller the "bite" will be on ! Wednesday Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week look to be small tides and should be very productive for tuna fishing charters. Its that time of the year again. All in all, there is some fantastic fishing to be had in the next several weeks, be it for striped bass or tuna. Lodging is again affordable on the Cape and the crowds have gone. Come down and visit for a few days and catch a pile of fish.
