Hi Folks,The Rips of Monomoy are in consistent mode. The water temperatures are where they should be on both tides. (Generally the north tide is cooler than the south tide.) There are now squid in the area consistently and at "primetime" the bass push them to the surface and the gulls will be feeding along with the bass and the fishermen working there. Its a good time to have fresh frozen LOCAL squid on the boat. The stuff they sell in the bait shops tends to be from California.
The tuna situation although less active in numbers caught, definately has some decent action going on. The fish are larger this year, in the range of 52 to 65 inches being caught regularly. I know of a couple legal sized giant tuna also have been landed in the area as well. I still hear lots of talk on the radio of guys that have no problem catching the big one, but are still looking for the small one. The rules this year are two fish are allowed- one at over 47 inches and less than 73 inches and the other between 27 inches and under 47 inches. Boats last week were catching up to a half dozen fish in a trip, and many fish caught were in the 60 inch size class- a really nice BFT !
Black seems to be a good color on the squid rigs again this year. There are fish being caught all over the ocean it seems. Most of the boats seem to be working the BC buoy area and the shipping lanes fairly nearby. The Regal Sword has also produced decent fishing in the last week. I guess you go where your best, most recent and most trusted reports are coming from and try not to second guess yourself.
Whether it be Striped Bass or Bluefin Tuna, whatever gamefish you seek, you will find plenty of quality action off the shores of Chatham this summer. Give us a call at (508) 255-0911 or send an email to bruce@sportfishingcapecod.com to reserve a date for your summer fishing action. Some weeks are already booked solid, others are still surprisingly open. Its a fact that the longer you wait to reserve a day, the less of a selection there is.
Thanks very much,
Captain Bruce & Marilyn S
