Hi Folks,
To those of you that took the time to call or send an email to the fish managers, and in particular, last week regarding more herring managment issues, please know that your efforts have had an positive impact.
The New England Fishery Management Council voted to insist that mid water herring boats that fish in closed area 1 MUST have 100 % observer coverage ! In the same motion the Council also voted that there is to be no dumping of unsampled catch. Every other boat in the ocean is required to have an observer. Its about time that the mid water herring boats do too !
I realize that we are all busy and getting a fishing related email in the inbox when we are all trying to make a morgage payment is kind of a pain in the neck. But here's an example of a positive change as a direct result of our efforts.
