Hi Folks,
I have great news ! The tuna have showed up ! Several fish have already been taken to the Northeast of Chatham. I have heard of two giants and one or two fish in the 60 to 72 inch range. I have been told of three various sightings of breaking fish as they migrate northward as well.
Even more exciting, NMFS has changed the limit on recreationally caught BFT. Originally the National Marine Fisheries Service had said that we could only take one school, large school, or small medium bluefin tuna per boat, per day this year. They have since rescinded that decision, based upon feedback and stock analysis. The final ruling is that the angling category (recreational and charter) will be allowed to take one school (27" to less than 47")bluefin tuna and one large school/small medium BFT (47" to less than 73") per vessel, per day/trip. All other size class limits remain the same.
Good Fishing to You,
Bruce & Marilyn S
